FAQ: How to participate
Back to the FAQ homepage
How can I participate?
It is easy. All you need to do is record yourself saying your
first name (not your family or surname) and upload it to our
server. (Read our step by step
guide on recording your name)
Once your file has been approved it is added to the catalogue
of names here. People from all around the world can then search
for your name and listen to how you pronounce it.
Why would people do this? Because it is interesting!
Do I need an interesting name to
participate?
What a silly question.... all names are interesting! Even Bob
is an interesting name if you think about it...
We want to document every name
out there, so please submit your name! Yes, that means you too
Bob!
Can
I submit a name even if it is already in the database?
Yes, please do. It will be interesting to get people from different
countries submitting the same names, and then comparing the differences
in pronunciation!
Can I submit my nickname,
or my dog's name etc?
We'd rather that you didn't. We only have so much disk space
on the server!
Does
it cost anything to participate?
Say That Name is 100% free. However, if you would like to help
support the project please
read how you can help.
What are the requirements
for the audio files?
All audio files need to be in .wav format and be less than 100
Kb in size.
Please record your file using the following settings: 22.050
kHz, 8 Bit, Mono (about 21 kb/sec).
For instructions on how to record your file using a Windows based
PC, please read our step by step
guide.
What
will you do with my audio file?
We will serve it here from our website. People from around the
world can come and search the archive and listen to your recording.
Your email address (if you supply it) will not be disclosed
to the public. Only your first name, sex and country will be
displayed with your audio file.
